Aviation Educator of the year: Miller Scanlan

Miller Scanlan, the 2026 Aviation Educator of the Year, is shaping the future of aviation by developing the next generation of skilled technicians and industry professionals. At Crowley ISD, Scanlan has built a learning environment where students are encouraged to dream big, develop strong technical foundations and pursue meaningful careers in aviation.

As the leader of one of only three FAA-approved A&P high school programs in the nation, Scanlan brings valuable industry insight into the classroom. His background includes years of experience with American Airlines and Harris Composites Inc., which he brings into the classroom to ensure students receive real-world knowledge and practical skills.

Over the past two years, Scanlan has faced personal challenges, yet his commitment to his students has remained steady. He continues to provide a consistent, supportive learning environment where he provides his students with the tools they need to excel as they work toward earning their A&P certifications.

“Miller doesn’t just teach students; he mentors them,” said Mark Kirk of Granbury High School. “I’ve seen firsthand how students recognize Miller as the person who positively impacted their lives more than anyone else.”

Scanlan’s dedication and integrity are reflected in the success of those he teaches. His impact extends beyond the classroom, helping strengthen the pipeline of skilled aviation professionals and supporting the future of the industry.
