Airport 101 Guide Offers Reference for Airport Sponsors and Managers
The Airport 101 Guide serves as a practical reference for airport sponsors, airport managers and other stakeholders involved in the operation of general aviation airports across Texas.
Designed as a living document, the guide is intended to be updated as needs evolve and will be accessible online through the TxDOT Aviation Division website. Rather than functioning as a step by-step manual, it provides general information and guidance to support day-to-day decision-making and airport management.
The guide is organized into two main sections: an Airport Sponsor Guide and an Airport Manager Guide. The sponsor section focuses on governance, finance and compliance responsibilities, while the manager section addresses planning, procurement, operations and maintenance. An introductory section provides shared context for both audiences, including stakeholder roles and how airports fit within state and national systems. Appendices include grant assurances, checklists, and key contacts and resources.
The guide also directs users to additional resources, including FAA materials and TxDOT planners and industry references, and encourages airport personnel to reach out to TxDOT Aviation with questions as they arise.
